Can't make it to our October Sessions?
No problem! We train every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30PM to 9:00PM at Cardiff Harlequins RFC ... new players are welcome at any time! Our First three sessions are free, then only £5 per month for student memberships
What t0 Expect?
These sessions are all about having fun and getting to know the rest of the team in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
We’ll incorporate a mix of skill-focused drills and lighthearted games to help break the ice. We understand some might feel a little nervous, but rest assured – our team prides itself on being a friendly and inclusive group where everyone feels welcome.
We recommend arriving at our training ground between 7:00 PM and 7:15 PM, so you’re ready for a 7:30 PM start. Sessions will run until 9:00 PM, and afterwards, we’ll head to the bar or a local pub for a well-deserved drink and some social time.
Don’t forget to bring wet weather gear and a change of clothes (it’s Wales, after all!). We have plenty of changing facilities on-site. You’ll also need a pair of rugby or football boots – we do however have a few pairs available to lend out (however do note they are limited so if you can bring a pair then please do).
About the Club
Cardiff Lions RFC is proud to be Wales’ first gay-inclusive rugby team, championing diversity and inclusion both on and off the field. We take pride in the diverse backgrounds of our players, welcoming gay, straight, queer, and players of all identities. Our club operates both a 1st XV and 2nd XV team, ensuring there’s a place for everyone, regardless of experience or skill level. The 1st XV focuses on competitive rugby, while the 2nd XV is dedicated to player development and helping newcomers build their confidence.
As an inclusive community sports club, our mission is to create a safe and welcoming space where players can be themselves, make friends, and enjoy rugby. We understand that some may not feel comfortable expressing their true selves in other local or university-based teams, and that’s where we come in – offering a space that is both fun and competitive.
Cardiff Lions compete in the Inclusive Gay Rugby (IGR) Southern League and the UK League, playing matches against teams from across the UK roughly once a month. In addition to league games, we regularly organise friendlies with local clubs, development matches against other teams, and intra-club games, ensuring there’s always a chance to get involved and improve.
